Richard Dale "Richie" Farmer is a former American professional basketball player and politician. Born on August 25, 1969, in Manchester, Kentucky, Farmer is best known for his collegiate basketball career at the University of Kentucky, where he played as a shooting guard for the Wildcats between 1988 and 1992.
Farmer was a member of the famous "Unforgettables" team at Kentucky, which reached the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament in 1992. He was named an All-American and Southeastern Conference Player of the Year during his senior year.
After his basketball career, Farmer transitioned to politics and was elected as the Kentucky Commissioner of Agriculture in 2003. He served two terms in this role before running for Lieutenant Governor of Kentucky in 2011 but was unsuccessful. In 2013, Farmer was sentenced to 27 months in federal prison for misappropriating state government resources while in office.
Since his release from prison, Farmer has been involved in various advocacy and speaking engagements, where he discusses the importance of second chances and ethics in public service.
